The AUM series of linear brushless motors are ironless direct drive linear motors. This means that the moving coil contains only copper wire and no iron. The motor has advantages of zero cogging, zero hysteresis, low moving mass and high force to mass ratios. These motors are suitable for high accelerations (up to 10G) and high speed applications, which are typically up to 5 metres per second, due to the limitation of the bearings. They are also suitable for low speed applications where high precision or low velocity ripple is important. When used with air bearings, these motors provide the ultimate in performance for high precision applications. AUM series of linear brushless motors have the unique advantages of relatively short coils, with large forces compared with other ironless linear motors.
