Magnet-Free Track Linear Motors

Magnet-Free Track Linear Motors

High force density, low EMI

High precision, high speed, low cogging

Stand-alone or Module Design

How does the MMF series magnet-free track linear motor work?

Most linear motors currently available on the market have magnets in the linear track, with coils in the moving forcer. Motion Control’s new MMF series (Motion Magnet-free)  linear motor is an industry first: Our magnet-free-track linear motor is based on the principles of magnetic field theory, with the platen not needing permanent magnets anymore. This can save on large amounts of rare-earth materials, most importantly saving on costs, particularly on long platen lengths.

With safety being a factor on assembly with large magnetic fields on current linear motors, the magnet-free track linear motors have low vertical magnetic attraction, ease of forcer and platen protection and most importantly saving a vast amount of cost on the application of long linear movements with increased platen lengths.

MMF’s working principle, keeps the most basic electromagnetic theory still unchanged, but it adopts the latest in ‘magnetic field modulation’ principles, with a self-modulated ferrite alloy stator, we incorporate the magnets, moving from the stator to the mover, so that the coil and magnet are totally integrated in the mover in a compact format. The unique shaped design on the stator provides a magnetic circuit that essentially interacts with two magnetic fields to generate thrust, with excellent smooth performance and movement.

 Magnet-Free Track Linear Motors Features

By optimising this unique design between forcer and platen, the manufacturing and installation of MMF linear motor gives our customers extremely high force density, ease of assembly to their application, with increased operating speed, with precision movement.

So with the high speed and precision advantages over a conventional linear motor, the MMF linear motor has the following advantages:

  • Safer assembly for operators with no magnetic field in the stator.
  • Reduced cogging and friction, therefore increasing the life expectancy of the product
  • With EMI significantly reduced in the platen
  • Complete protection on the forcer, with reduced particles attracted by the magnetic field
  • Cost saving over conventional linear motors on rare earth materials
