The Rotating Electric collectors or Slip Rings are used to transfer power and electrical signals from a fixed structure to one in continuous rotation.
The slip rings are made up of two parts: an external one called STATOR (because normally stationary) consisting of brushes of noble material (golden or silver copper) and an inner part called ROTOR (because normally rotating) consisting of rings also made of materials nobles. The operation is reversible, ie the external part, which is normally fixed, can be rotated and, consequently, the internal part (which normally rotates) can be kept fixed.
How a slip ring is made?
The slip rings are produced according to Servotecnica specifications, checked and certified in a unique way in order to provide highly reliable components, ensuring maximum cost-quality ratio. The slip rings are also known with terms such as: electric rotary joint, electric collector, electric joint or electrical joint. The main function of the slip ring is the transfer of signals or electric power from a fixed structure to a mobile, allowing a continuous rotation preventing the electrical conductors from being stressed by mechanical torsion.
Servotecnica, in its electric manifolds, has placed particular attention in the design and production of the two elements that come into contact: the brushes and the rings. The choice of precious materials, the thickness, and the particular geometry, the care in the choice of bearings, lead to an estimated life of up to 50 million rotations.
The types of slip rings proposed by Servotecnica start from the SVTS A "Capsule" series, they are manifolds without through holes with diameter from 12 up to 22 mm and from 3 up to 56 circuits. Thanks to the gold-gold technology, the brushes and the rings, it allows the transfer of high frequency signals as well as the transfer of fieldbuses with up to 1G bandwidth used especially in video surveillance systems, in medical pharmaceuticals.
The SVTS B "Faston" series, with diameters of 32 and 45 mm and from 2 to 6 contacts, being able to carry analogue power and signal at the same time, are ideal for Flowpack, packaging and rotary tables thanks to the option with IP65 protection degree.
One of the most requested products is the SVTS C "through-bore" series, characterized by the through hole with diameters from 3 up to 100 mm in the standard versions. It is possible to transmit very high power levels, even by paralleling multiple contacts and simultaneously bringing digital, analog and fieldbus signals including Ethernet Realtime (EterCAT - Sercos III - Profinet - Eternet / IP - Ethernet Powerlink), the application sectors in which these collectors find space Electric are Converting, Medical, Pharmaceutical, CN Machines, Packaging.
For special applications such as in the food industry, in machine tools, in rotary tables that require both an IP65 degree of protection and the steel casing we have developed the collectors of the SVTS D "Stainless Steel" series.
The rotating joints of the SVTS E "Frameless" series are instead directed towards applications for wind turbines, in fact in a small space we have concentrated a considerable power, having eliminated the outer casing are particularly economical.
A very interesting novelty are the slip rings of the SVTS F "Flat" series which develop more on the diameter and contain the thickness.
